I used to sing it that way, too. (I won’t tell you how old I was when I finally figured it out, but I think it involved a hymnbook and Seminary…)

I always thought a shalmeno was like an old, rusty, corrugated-tin shed. And the song made NO sense. :)

I had the same question when I was little. I assumed a shalmeno was a signifying event. by which “ye are my disciples.”

Ok, so I’m not crazy, I thought a “shalmeno” was some type of decree or announcement. I didn’t figure it out until we learned the song in sign language.
